King of Spain share new single "Green Eyes"

Team Clermont Press Release:

Just wanted to pass along this new track from the recent release All I Did Was Tell Them The Truth And They Thought It Was Hell, from Tampa's King of Spain. This song takes a different path from some of the other material we've shared from the record, showing they can tone down the electronics and turn up the surfy stomp. Songwriter Matt Slate claims that "It is King of Spain's first attempt at anything that could be considered a 'love song'. I wanted to also convey the fear and anxiety that one experiences along with new love."

NEW MP3 : King of Spain - "Green Eyes"

Let us know what you think, we would love if you could help us share the song!

King of Spain - All I Did Was Tell Them The Truth And They Thought It Was Hell
Release date: August 28, 2012
Label: New Granada
MP3: “Motions” / Video: “Motions”
MP3: “Basement Fires”

About: Though the one-man-band has since become a duo, NPR described King of Spain’s last record as “...an artful collection of intricately crafted electro-folk songs, built with pulsating guitars, strange ambient sounds and looped vocal parts that showcase Slate’s distinctively raspy voice.”

Azure Ray's As Above So Below now streaming in full; Tour begins next week

Saddle Creek Records press release:

As Above So Below, the new recording from Azure Ray, is set for a September 4 release. Rolling Stone is currently streaming the six song set in it's entirety.

US tour dates begin next week in Birmingham and run through September 22 in San Diego. A full list of dates is so below.

Azure Ray - As Above So Below - CD/LP/Digital - September 4, 2012
When they were setting out to write new music, Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor of Azure Ray were intent to depart from their original sound; that lushly haunted, dreamy folk pop that was born twelve years ago with their self-titled debut. “We wanted to go for something completely different,” says Fink, “For As Above So Below, we wanted it to be more like Azure Ray in an alternate universe.” And certainly the themes of alternative universes, Mother Nature, beginnings, endings, and re-birth surface in the songs. “It was hard not to think of those things,” laughs Fink, “Maria was eight months pregnant during recording!”

Sonically, As Above is a sparser, more minimal and more electronic experience than past albums, seeking inspiration from James Blake, Nicolas Jaar, and Apparat in keeping the music minimal and modern but still working as a textural and emotional extension of the lyrics. Conveniently, Fink is married to Todd Fink of the celebrated electronica band The Faint, so they didn’t have to look far for a guide into digital territory. “We enlisted my husband and Andy LeMaster (Bright Eyes, Now It’s Overhead) as our dream team,” says Fink.

Longtime fans will be comforted to know that while in some ways As Above So Below is a departure, what isn’t left behind is that unmatched, dreamy essence that arises when Fink and Taylor harmonize. You know an Azure Ray song when you feel it–it’s chilling and familiar, like a draft of wind on the heart. As above, so below. As in nature, Fink and Taylor heed, so in our lives.

Azure Ray - Summer 2012 Tour Dates

New Morning Glory track streaming (Members of Leftover Crack/Choking Victim)‏

Fat Wreck Chords press release

Stereokiller is premiering “Life’s a Long Revenge”, a brand new song from MORNING GLORY’s upcoming Fat debut, Poets Were My Heroes, out August 28th. Pre-order your copy and then read what drummer Early Gates had to say about the song:

“This was another really fun song to record! Ezra had mentioned that he wanted to try to use drum sticks (rather than hi hats, or snare rim knocks) to keep the rhythm during the verses, so we tried a few different approaches. First we tried to tape a drum stick to a cymbal stand, but it kept getting lose and falling. Then we tried to attach the stick to a mic stand. It had the same problem. Also, it just didn’t have a nice warm sound. Our final solution was Ezra standing there holding one drum stick with both hands. It had the perfect recoil and sound that we were looking for. For live shows I’ve schemed a way to hold one drum stick out to become part of the drum kit. I also did the rocking whistling solo on this track.Since it’s hard to walk and chew gum (and drum and whistle) at the same time, we been having kids do the whistling at shows.”

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band Debuts Omen-esque Video For “Devils Look Like Angels”

Western Publicity Press Release: Heather West, Western Publicity, westernpublicity@gmail.com

“I thought it would be funny to have a little girl with my voice. Plus, it shows that sometimes mean things can come in pretty packages. You just never can tell.” The Reverend Peyton says about his bands new “Omen-esque” video for their lead single “Devils Look Like Angels.”
Directed by Kevin Custer (The Gaslight Anthem, Hatebreed, Lil Wayne) and shot in Bloomington, IN, the bands 8 year old fan Elsie McNulty cleverly depicts the true lyrical essence behind “Devils Look Like Angels.”
“Devils Looks Like Angels” comes from the bands new album Between The Ditches , which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Blues chart this week. The Big Damn Band is currently on a full headlining U.S. Tour doing what they do best, blowing people away with their incendiary live show. You can check out the video via the YouTube link below, as well as see a full list of the bands headlining tour dates.

Click here to see the new video: http://youtu.be/sRWMwpPlm28

Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band plays a brand of Americana and Blues that stands alone - Delta blues and hillbilly fervor combine with musical acuity sharp as razor wire - best know, this trio is a force to be reckoned with.

Their fifth album celebrates the growl of a good truck engine, the fiercest passion for their country home and the importance of family. The an uncanny ability to breathe new life into old forms of music give the Big Damn Band a pedigree many Americana acts would kill for and an ironclad work ethic keeps them on the road playing for the people with hurricane force. Locked in with an audience, the band create their own community and welcome the crowd into it, transporting them away from their troubles to joyous release, the way great musicians have done for centuries. The Rev. J. Peyton, his wife Breezy and distant cousin Aaron "Cuz" Persinger are a living breathing embodiment of the traditions and hard work ethic native to their Brown County, Indiana home.

With a reputation for their incendiary live shows well established, The Big Damn Band set out to make the album that would finally capture the same heat. Recorded at White Arc Studio in Bloomington, Indiana, the album was produced by The Rev. Peyton and Paul Mahern (John Mellencamp, Iggy Pop) and mastered by Brian Lucey (Black Keys, Dr. John, Shins). For previous albums, the band had recorded live, straight through in the same mode as a live show. Between the Ditches came together more slowly, with care. “We approached it saying we were going to make a record this time, not just a recording,” explained the Rev. He used a different guitar set up on almost every track, employing two ‘30s National guitars, a cigar box guitar, a custom shop Gibson flattop 1929 L2 and an Airline map electric guitar. The primary amps are custom Weber amps made by Weber speakers – both are one of a kind.

Between The Ditches features a new level of craftmanship in both recording technique and songwriting. The Rev. feels that it's their best album to date."I'm very proud of this album, the songwriting and the playing." The guitar playing alone should put the Rev. in the same class with his much revered idols. The songwriting boasts an added maturity and runs the gamut in subject matter from the barn burning, tongue in cheek, “Shut the Screen”, (where "It’s too dang hot and the bugs are too dang mean") to the evils of strip mining, an issue close to the hearts of this Indiana born and bred band in “Don't Grind It Down”. There seems to be a theme expressed throughout the album and stated clearly in their first single,“Devils Look Like Angels”: "Devil don’t live down in hell, the devil’s right here doing very well".

This band is fun sure, a lot of fun, but they are for real. From virtuoso musicianship to great songwriting, Between The Ditches has got it all. All from a little Brown County, Indiana band that's got the nerve (and the right) to call themselves Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band.

Bob Mould premieres "The Descent" the first single from Silver Age- stream it now

Merge Records press release:

Bob Mould will release Silver Age, his first album of all new studio material since 2009’s Life And Times, September 4 on Merge. The new record features Bob's current band--drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk, the Mountain Goats) and bassist Jason Narducy (Split Single, Verbow)--on 10 brand new Mould compositions in the punishingly loud melodically sparkling pop/rock vein of the Sugar catalogue which was reissued via Merge on July 24.

Stream “The Descent,” the first single from Silver Age now

Where the current run of Bob Mould Plays COPPER BLUE dates commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 1992 release of Sugar's debut Copper Blue with Bob and the band playing that record in its entirety, Bob's fall dates supporting Silver Age will be more elaborate affairs: Copper Blue will still be played front to back, however an additional set and encores mixing the new Silver Age material with Husker Du, Sugar and Mould solo classics will complete the evening. In addition to the previously announced Copper Blue/Silver Age tour dates in the fall, Bob has also announced a date at the historic El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on October 30.

Find photos and bio information at Bob's press page. To request music, contact perri@nastylittleman.com or christina@mergerecords.com.

Final two Archers of Loaf reissues to be released August 7

Merge Records press release:

On August 7, Merge will reissue All the Nations Airports and White Trash Heroes, the final two albums from Archers of Loaf. Both albums have been remastered by Bob Weston and feature re-imagined cover art, new liner notes and copious bonus material. Also, each album will be available on double-CD, colored vinyl and digital download.

Listen to & share "Deep Red Eyes" from White Trash Heroes now at the Merge SoundCloud page

With All the Nations Airports, the band did not compromise its efforts to push itself in new directions. Archers of Loaf delivered an album that included the straightforward indie-rock songs that had made them famous, interspersed with instrumental tracks, layered tape loops, and even a solo piano song. In Stephen Thompson’s liner notes for the Airports reissue, he says, “It’s music that exists because it must, with all the bile, beauty, and bluster of youth and all the disaffected paranoia of a perpetually worried mind. The album might not have fulfilled Archers of Loaf’s commercial potential at the time, but that makes an awful lot of sense. The band tended to craft its greatest art when it saw fit to scribble in the margins.”

Archers of Loaf almost called it quits after All the Nations Airports due to the strain of touring and the rut of the album cycle (i.e., make record, make video, do interviews, tour, tour, tour; repeat) but decided they would make one more album and see how they felt after that process. They again enlisted the help of Brian Paulson to record the album that became White Trash Heroes. On this album, the band added keyboards to several songs as well as vocoder, and debuted the lead vocals of Matt Gentling on the track "I.N.S." "Banging on a Dead Drum" found all the members swapping instruments and featured some of the worst cowbell ever attempted.

In the liner notes for Merge’s reissue of the Archers’ final album, Josh Modell says, “In hindsight, it’s easy to read White Trash Heroes as both the stormy end to a legendary band and as the beginning of something else: Bachmann’s next project, Crooked Fingers. Hints of what came two years later abound here, particularly on the keyboard undercarriage and restrained energy of ‘Dead Red Eyes’ and the epic, sequencer-assisted title track."

A three minute punk rock roar, “Everybody Dies” from Love and Zombies dives into your eardrums and digs its way into your mind. “Everybody Dies” is the third track put out in 2012 by Love and Zombies, the California punk rock project of Doug Young, and it hit the Internet hard at the end of April.
“Everybody Dies” starts off with rifle shot drum beats, then the guitars swagger in bringing the power and a blitzkrieg of noise jumps forth. A catchy hook emerges from the wall of sound and the vocals burst forth to tell a tale of pop culture obsession, doom and disinterest.
Crafting a sound that is informed by raw, messy punk bands like NOFX and aggressive alternative bands like Placebo and Mindless Self Indulgence, Love and Zombies mixes elements of pop and punk and progressive alternative rock that fits comfortably in between new and old.
Young is the head, the body and the heart of the Love and Zombies machine. He writes all the songs, sings, plays all the instruments, records and mixes the tracks, does all the artwork and makes sure there are no compromises. The complex blistering wave of attitude and aggression, with a slight hue of resignation, that is the song “Everybody Dies” sounds like it was produced in a top-shelf recording studio with a full cast of band members and producers, yet it is just Young who is Love and Zombies.

“It takes forever to finish tracks. It’d probably take less time to find members and teach them to play the parts, and go into a studio, but that’s not really an option at this point in time,” Young says. “Plus there’s a strong sense of accomplishment when you have that kind of ownership over a completed project.”
Young cut his teeth in Southern California pop-punk outfits The Muchruckers and Pale Like You – as a singer, guitarist and a bassist. A true Do It Yourself (DIY) artist, Young is a dedicated musician who strives every week to create a fresh new sound and story, record it, perfect it and unleash it upon the ears of music fans waiting for an intense, sometimes angry, sometime juvenile, sometimes intellectual, always ready to go sound that keeps pace with today’s frenetic culture.
Hear the sound of one music fan fighting against an army of sub-par music scenesters more interested in the latest fix than anything quality, by downloading “Everybody Dies” NOW.

Snacktruck Spacial Findings 1 – 7

Snacktruck
Spacial Findings 1 – 7
No Idea Records/ Rorschach Records

This is a noisy, intense, intricate, instrumental release. It pounds and dodges and dives and keeps up the momentum the whole time. The are 8 tracks on this release and none of them stop building and pulsing and crashing.
Snacktruck is a band with 2 drummers and a guitarist, and a bass player on this release. The create a huge monstrous cacoughophny that made me turn my CD player down and reminds me of seeing Enemymine or Lightening Bolt live, crazy loud and thumping my whole body in a good way. There are occasional downtempo regrouping moments that remind me of Sweep The Leg Johnny too.
Snacktruck has been called ‘post-metal’ and ‘math-metal’ and the remind me of a heavy prog rock band like Don Cabellero, Trans Am or Russian Circles, but they mix in some Steely Dan and The Who influences, some Mastodon and High on Fire metal and some Man or Astroman fun. Fans of Explosions in the Sky, Mono and Mogwai might also dig them. They have less chill and comtemplate moments and more bash your head into a wall moments, but they play their instruments very well, layer their tracks with precission and deliver a switching and twitching sound that is loud and buzzing.
The sound of Spacial Findings is a bit like a horror movie in outer space, or a Tron on crack- it’s intense, bewildering, befuddling and all encompassing, filled with beauty and anger.
See a live Snacktruck performance HERE and buy Spacial Findings through the No Idea Website HERE.

Dive debut LP + New Track + Covers Kurt Cobain + Now touring‏

Press Release from Life or Death PR & Management:

DIVE is the nom-de-plume of Z. Cole Smith, musical provocateur and front-man of an atmospheric and autumnally-charged new Brooklyn four-piece.

Recently inked to the uber-reliable Captured Tracks imprint, DIVE created instant vibrations in the blog-world with their impressionistic debut "Sometime"; finding it's way onto the esteemed pages of Pitchfork and Altered Zones a mere matter of weeks after the group's formation.

Enlisting the aid of NYC indie-scene-luminary, Devin Ruben Perez, former Smith Westerns drummer Colby Hewitt, and Mr. Smith's childhood friend Andrew Bailey, DIVE craft a sound that is at once familial and frost-bitten. Indebted to classic kraut, dreamy Creation-records psychedelia, and the primitive-crunch of late-80's Seattle, the band walk a divisive yet perfectly fused patch of classic-underground influence.

One part THC and two parts MDMA; the first offering from DIVE chemically fuses the reminiscent with the half-remembered building a musical world out of old-air and new breeze. These are songs that remind us of love in all it's earthly perfections and perversions.

A lot of DIVE's magnetism was birthed in the process Mr. Smith went through to discover these initial compositions. After returning from a US tour with Beach Fossils, Cole made a bold creative choice, settling into the window-facing corner of a painter's studio in Bushwick, sans running water, holing up to craft his music.

In this AC-less wooden room, throughout the thick of the summer, Cole surrounded himself with cassettes and LP's, the likes of Lucinda Williams, Arthur Russell, Faust, Nirvana, and Jandek; writings of N. Scott Momaday, James Welsh, Hart Crane, Marianne Moore, and James Baldwin; and dreams of aliens, affection, spirits, and the distant natural world (as he imagined it from his window facing the Morgan L train).

The resulting music is as cavernous as it is enveloping, asking you to get lost in it's tangles in an era that demands your attention be focused into 140 characters.

Since that fateful summer, the band have waged a full throttle attack on the nation's venues, where the mellow, sometimes melancholic vibes of those early transmissions morph into a manic, crashing thing, providing an apt preview of DIVE's debut LP Oshin due on Captured Tracks on June 26th. Catch DIVE on tour now.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Premiere "We Almost Lost Detroit" Video

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. new video for "We Almost Lost Detroit" is now available on Stereogum and Vimeo. The video for the Gil Scott-Heron cover, which is the new single from their debut full-length It's A Corporate World, was shot earlier this year in their hometown of Detroit and is directed by Andrew Smart.http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

"We Almost Lost Detroit" video:

A note from Josh Epstein & Daniel Zott of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

Today we are debuting a video for a song we did not write. 'We Almost Lost Detroit' began as a homage to one of the great artists of our time, Gil Scott Heron. Ever since we formed as a band roughly two years ago, we've drawn a very high level of inspiration from this song. So much so that we felt compelled to record our own version, and put it on our first ever full-length album last year.

As Detroiters, we are born and bred with a civic pride that we are continually told is somewhat uncommon. We wanted the city, and the people in the city, to be the video for this simple reason. It is an exciting time to be from Detroit--as we believe it's a city that is in the midst of reinventing itself in a huge way.

Read Josh and Daniel's full statement about the video here.

Further representing their hometown, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. will release a special Detroit-themed Record Store Day 12". The EP will feature "We Almost Lost Detroit," two covers of songs by other Detroit natives Madonna and Sixto Rodriguez, and three remixes by Detroit-based artists. The 12" is a limited pressing of 2k standard black vinyl units and will be available for $16.98 exclusively on Record Store Day on 4/21. They will also perform a special hometown show at Detroit's Majestic Theater on Record Store Day.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. just headlined the Nowadays Festival in PA and played two sold out shows in NYC at Brooklyn Bowl and Bowery Ballroom. They will appear at Bonnaroo this summer before heading into the studio to record their sophomore album.

Music Review: Stereotyperider - Songs in the Keys of F and U PLUS Listen to the track "Twon Song"

So, first off, the title of the last album by Stereotyperider Songs in the Keys of F and U is awesome. Second, the ahttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.giflbum reminds me a lot of No Knife’s Riot For Romance record. It has chrunchy punky guitars, some screaming, some delicious pop hooks and is overall solid but not outstanding, and a bit long with a few tracks not even worth paying attention to.

Sometimes I wish bands would just release EPs – three or four of their best songs – and not try to put together a whole album. It was an EP from Stereotyperider that first caught my attention a few years ago. It was the first of the “Under The Influence" series on Suburban Home Records. The series had artists release EPs of songs by bands that influenced them – Sterotyperider did an awesome 7-song collection of Fugazi, Pixies, Seaweed, Descendents, Quicksand and Cure covers. Having less songs makes a band put only their greatest ones forth, not fillers and unpolished studio songs. Bands sometimes need editors, like a newspaper reporter does, to cut out their excess bullshit that misses the point and doesn’t help the story.

If Stereotyperider had an editor on Songs in the Keys… it probably would have been another 7-song effort, instead of 14 tracks. All 14 tracks are pleasant enough but only a few are stellar. The band throws in a few instrumental tracks – something Fugazi always did (I think just to prove they are awesome musicians and don’t need to bark intelligent lyrics and ooze an ethos) – and mixes in a few tracks that don’t seem to have had time to percolate completely.

“Did You Hear What I Meant” is a feisty rocker with tough breakdowns and a Hot Water Music in-and-out flow. “Twon Song” is an intense tight indie rock fury that pumps, grabs you, releases its hold so you can smell the sweet air and then chokes you out. "Luck" and “Useless Point” are pop-punky anthems, with a bit of Screeching Weasel and Face to Face to them. The album ends with a track – “Longer Than A 72” – that explores a bit with various times and chunked up fuzzy refrains but is grounded in a nice melody, and it works for the most part.

Songs like “Not Sayin’ It,” “Dave’s Fault,” “Annoy Me,” and “Problem Solved” seem unfocused or loose retreads. The editor needed to step in and realize that giving a band room to expand doesn’t always work and leads to repetition and recreation, but not really worthwhile innovation that stands up to the original content and demands to be with it.

This was the last album the Phoenix, Arizona foursome ever put out, and it’s not the best thing since sliced bread but it’s decent and if your CD collection needs more Dischord post-hardcore-sounding bands and Southern math rockers, then you can slip this one near there. And while I doubt you’ll pull it out a lot when you do, it’ll be just fine. Hell, who gets CDs anymore anyway, I guess. Get the tracks as mp3s and put it on a shuffle in your digital music player and it’ll be cool.

Stream the new MOONLIT SAILOR album on Deep Elm Records

Deep Elm Records Press Release:

MOONLIT SAILOR "Colors In Stereo"

To sum it up succinctly, Colors In Stereo is huge. It's like the thunderous boom of 1,000 armies marching in lockstep. Already receiving well-deserved critical acclaim for creating an entirely new dimension to the post-rock genre, these four Swedes have done it yet again with a truly unique album. Firmly entrenched in their quasi-pop / post-rock roots but adding space-rock elements to their already massive soundscapes, MOONLIT SAILOR has created a blueprint for the future of post-rock. Everything on Colors In Stereo is special: from the sounds you've never heard before, to the arpeggios that swallow you whole, to the powerful crescendos that devastate your senses. If you don't find it difficult to listen without being overwhelmed with emotion, you're not listening. "This album means a lot. We didn't want to disappoint anyone, especially ourselves. As for the title, it reminds us of the future...very positive and joyful. You can really feel the colors float through your inner mind and leave you purified" says says bass guitarist Markus Rundlof. This is the new standard. It's that good. (click Here to read all of the amazing reviews).

Music Review: The Serious Geniuses - You Can Steal The Riffs, But You Can’t Steal The Talent

The Serious Geniuses are a light punk trio from Boston, and they put out one album a few years ago called You Can Steal The Riffs, But You Can’t Steal The Talent on Kiss Of Death Records and I liked it immediately upon hearing it. It was pleasant, crunchy, poppy indie rock that wasn’t too forceful but had enough kick to it. The album reminded me of Blink 182 or Sum 41, but a bit more indie rock.

This album is not outstanding and it’s kind of old sounding, and maybe that’s what gives it some nostalgic charm. Even the press materials with this album say it sounds like old Chapel Hill bands, Archers of Loaf and such, and I can see some Merge Records or Deep Elm Records influences in the band. It feels Superchunk-ish and a bit reminiscent of old Boston light punk indie rockers Six Going On Seven, who relied on a more moody and "emo" delivery, whereas The Serious Geniuses lean a bit more punk, with a dash of Gorilla Biscuits' sloppy fury and melody. The songs on this record are catchy and played well but they don’t pummel you or throw a smile on your face. You could probably listen to it on repeat for a while though and be fine.

The Serious Geniuses have an energetic sound with words that are chantable, like the lyrics "change the station, cause everyone says that" on the song “Station” and "stick my tongue firmly in my cheek and repeat" on the song “Unique." The guitars are barreling and jangly, while the bass lines and drum beats are tough and rooted, which keeps the melodies driving as the band pops out pleasant and somewhat predictable tunes. Again, a mishmash of other bands rise to mind as I listen to the album, including Rye Coalition and At The Drive-In.

Also, it sounds like a less powerful Rancid but not as hyper or cocky, and Chisel, but without Ted Leo’s high-pitched and fun, cheerleading voice carrying everyone. So the sound from this band is a bit too generic and derivative, taking pieces from all the bands mentioned above but not making it unique or indispensable enough, which is probably why they went on indefinite hiatus and never came back. But hear some of their old stuff here if you’re interested.

Music Review: Mono - Holy Ground: NYC Live with the Wordless Music Orchestra

A fine experimental, swelling and crushing piece of work, Holy Ground... is a beautiful and angry CD from Mono. Mono's usual intelligent structures and amazing instrumentals are enhanced here with a live orchestra that makes their classical instrumental rock feel even bigger and sweeps you away even more.

Mono is a quartet of guitars, bass, and drums from Japan that produces songs that, for the most part, sweetly lull you in, gently rock you, pushing you into a soft groove, then burst out at you with incredible precise cacophony. The band brings forth intricate musicianship, energy, and “walls of noise” that have been called "violently beautiful" and "terrifyingly beautiful." The bursting flood of sound is even more intense here, and more enveloping, on Holy Ground... released by Temporary Residence Limited, with the live orchestra helping build the anticipation and bring the noise.

All the songs on this release can be found elsewhere in Mono’s catalog, but here they have a sparkle and intensity that they have never had before, with a full orchestra pummeling out tunes with tremendous force and a crowd just on the other side. The set lulls you sweetly then rocks you indescribably and the crowd must have been swaying and beating their fists with their eyes closed the whole time, perhaps engaging memories and parts of their brains they haven’t engaged in forever, because that is what Mono brings, a flood of sound and transportation.

Mono has been around for a more than a decade and although the tracks on this live CD come from throughout their history, they fit nicely together in the live performance. It is a wonderful and powerful sampling of Mono and perhaps the only Mono CD you need. The band will be touring some in the new year and playing with The Wordless Music Orchestra at some point – according to the band website – so keep an eye out.

Bon Iver Releases New Music Video for "Towers" - see video and download Bon Iver MP3s now

Jagjaguwar Press Release:

Nabil Elderkin, the filmmaker responsible for Bon Iver's epic "Holocene" video, directed the third video for Bon Iver, Bon Iver. Today "Towers" premiered at Vimeo:

When Justin sent me a breakdown of what certain parts/lines of the song meant to him I did my best to decode it and curate into something simple, and hopefully the viewer can take from it their own feeling of what the towers represent. It was shot up in Washington state, mostly on Indian-preserved land, and our actor's name was Mystic. He seemed to be very tuned into the land, and when he said he was also willing to fall into the freezing cold ocean up there (seems a bit sharky too), I knew he was my guy.

Music Review: Drag The River - Bad at Breaking Up

Drag The River
Bad at Breaking Up
Suburban Home Records

Put your feet up, crack open a cold one and let your heart break beautifully. That is the message from Drag The River.
Formed in the later '90s, with members from punk bands like All, Armchair Martian, Hot Rod Circuit and Pinhead Circus, who wanted to go country, Drag The River is an alt-country band in the vein of Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt and Lucero.
Singers Jon Snodgrass, of Armchair Martian, and Chad Price, who fronted All for a while, are the main cogs in Drag The River. They each have solo albums out nowadays too. They craft songs about whiskey and girls, and the band produces a sound that makes you think of a depressed country hoe-down.

Bad at Breaking Up – released on Suburban Home Records – is 20 of those toe-tapping, chest-crushing tunes, compiled from various 7 inches and splits and b-sides. And, it is a bit scattered but quite a solid and beautiful release. Held together with soft melodies and gorgeous stories, with lovely lyrics, the songs on Bad at Breaking Up have a common theme. But, it’s the same theme as any Drag The River release: love and friendship gone crooked in the modern world.
Standout tracks on Bad at Breaking Up include the “Jeff Black Song,” “Re-Rangement,” “Caleb’s Grave,” “A Way With Women,” “Dirty Lips,” and “J.J.’s Driving.” Slide guitars dance in and out, drums rev up, then beat quietly, and the bass lines grip you and won’t let you float away as you nod your head to these sad, universal stories.

Aside from “Trainwreck,” which is about a boozing preacher who preaches, “Dirty Lips” is the most raucous offering on this release. Rambling, dancing and knee slapping, it is a fun little ditty that brings a smile to your used lips. A lot of the CD, however, is about frowning with melancholy and being “Beautiful & Damned.” Lyrics like, "He’s got a way with women and he just got away with mine/I know you’ve been down here, I don’t know who ain't been, heard about your suicide that’s been a waste of time, can't you just get over it/We’ll watch the stars come up, dance until sunrise..." carry the twisted carnival of used and abused characters through the CD.

I wish I could have gotten one of the 1000 custom Drag The River guitar picks that came out with this release in 2009, but I don’t have to wish I could have seen the band. They are playing a string of shows in California right now. Check dragtheriver.com for more information.
